Logs 1151-1200: Legacy Gen 3D

Legacy Generation 3:
Adventure Set D:
Children of Furosa & NAG:
The World's Largest Dungeon

1403 DR / 623 CY
Yarth:
[Module: The World’s Largest Dungeon]
The fire genasi twins Prince Eldrin Dundaor II and Princess Melisana Dunador, along with their younger half-brother Prince Rin Dunador (3/4 orc-¼ human) had all become war clerics and served in the army during the war against the alliance of monster races that had plagued their region. Their friends (the children of their mother’s adventuring buddies) Shuza Ul’Tabarzi the human barbarian, Roland Fairburne II the ¾ human-1/4 elf wizard, and Gavina Fairburne the ¾ human-1/4 elf decided to join with the Dunadors when the paladin who raised them went missing.

The group investigated and found out that their missing paladin, stewart of their kingdom, traveled to a cave in a mountain far away so they went there and made their way up the mountain. Outside of the cave entrance, they found the dead body of a titan. They made their way down the cave tunnel.

Region A: They passed through a magical door/barrier that trapped them inside the dungeon! They fought: 3 orcs, 2 black oozes, 1 darkmantle, 1 swarm of rats, 1 fiendish rat, 8 fiendish dire rats, 2 fiendish darkmantles, 4 fiendish stirges, 1 ogre, 22 fiendish stirges, and 1 orc war chief. In addition to fighting in this area, the group found a magical spring, a magical silence room, and evidence of a war between orcs and lizardkin. Rin intimidated 10 orcs into joining the group. The orcs told them about Longtail the wererat sorcerer and his imp Achsyxx, who released fiendish enemies in this region. The group went and closed the portal, resulting in battle with Longtail and Achsyxx. They killed the imp and captured Longtail, but 8 of the orcs were also killed. They made a deal with Longtail that they would let him live and join the group since they realized the imp had corrupted and manipulated him – though they did take his Wand of Color Spray. The group continued on, looking for both the missing paladin and a way out of the dungeon.

Region B: The group found some tomes explaining that this dungeon used to be a prison run by celestials to keep fiends at bay. The group dealt with a lot of traps and fought: 10 bugbears, 84 goblins, 1 hobgoblin, 1 worg, and 1 goblin commander. They found a Necklace of Adaptation and some nice weapons.

Region C: The group fought: 4 wights, 1 gnolls ranger, 4 gnoll jailers, 1 rust monster, 1 huge gelatinous cube, 2 mimics, lots of traps, a series of rooms with alignment curses, and Nardarik the young black dragon sorcerer. The wererat and the 2 orcs died in the dragon battle.

Region G: The group killed 1 glabrezou demon and its 2 vrock guards; unfortunately, Gavina Fairburne was killed in battle. The group (down to 5 people) took the treasure – including the power source needed by the celestials of this region, and rescued 2 angelic trumpet archons who explained the situation here: the solar who commanded this region needed the stolen power source to keep an ancient evil demon locked away. The group agreed to have the archons lead them to the celestial base and give them the power source. They then rescued 2 “beautiful elf slave girls” [actually succubi] who convinced them to rest. Rin had formed feelings for Shuza so they were cuddling together. In the next room, the “elf slave girls” charmed/seduced Roland and Eldrin and then quietly ate the souls of the 2 men before fleeing deeper into the dungeon with their gear. The next morning Rin, Shuza, Melisana, and the 2 archons went to check on them and found their 2 dead bodies. Full of sadness, they continued on and fought a hezrou demon who blocked their path before getting to the central area with a lake of lava that they had to cross (with the archons flying them across a 30’ area, around a wall) as 12 dretches attacked them. They brought the power source to the solar in charge of the celestials and befriended their organization, called the Children of the Inner Light. In appreciation for their help, the solar assigned a deva named Olwin to accompany the group to the next region and help with their quest.

Region H: Rin, Shuza, Melisana, and Olwin entered the next area – which seemed to be an ancient underground cavern forest. Melisana was so amazed with the angelic beauty of Olwin that she couldn’t help flirting with him as the group quietly walked north along the left cavern wall. They passed by some abandoned watchtowers and continued on.

Region L: The group walked up to a giant underground lake (tainted by evil). Olwin, one at a time, flew the party members across the evil water; they avoided all of the monsters in this region.

Region O: The group entered the freezing cold area with caves that their new deva ally Olwin believed contained an exit from the dungeon. They encountered a group of 8 frost giants who accepted treasure in exchange for allowing them to rest in their camp and safe passage to the next area. In the next cave, the group had to fight 14 frost giants! They killed 2 enemies, but Olwin and Rin were both killed as well. Melisana and Shuza were forced to surrender, give up all of their gear, and allow the frost giants to have their way with them; Guent the frost giant impregnated Melisana. After the giants were done with the 2 women, they tossed them out of the cave the next day and told them to warn others not to come here to attack them.

Back: In Region L, Melisana and Shuza hid in the docks at the cove for the lake and rested; Melisana made a holy symbol out of wood. The next day they decided to return to the celestials and thus they swam back across the lake, avoiding monsters along the way. They went back through Region H and into Region G, where the lava path blocking their way required them to explore areas they hadn’t been to before. They killed 1 fiendish earth elemental, hid/rested in the pile of rubble, and realized the lava prevented them from making it to the base of the celestials. They then killed Narla the tiefling assassin/cleric and took her gear. The 2 “elf slave girls” came out from a secret door and thanked them for “rescuing us again” – blaming the deaths of Eldrin II and Roland II on Narla. Melisana saw through their lies, but decided they needed their help so she let them tag along as they headed north, into another region.

Region K: Melisana, Shuza, and the 2 succubi disguised as elves (Triniti and Tressa) killed 5 merrow to save 4 aquatic elves that were being tortured. The 8 of them rested together, hidden behind some old statues. During the night the 2 succubi charmed 2 aquatic elves, led them into a nearby room, seduced them, and ate their souls. They hid the bodies from the group and, the next morning, pretended they had no idea what happened to the men. The 2 remaining aquatic elves told the group about the hostiles of this sector (mainly the green dragon and the hags). The group decided to go slay Thorodin the green dragon, killing him and 2 of his bullywug guards. The 2 aquatic elves were killed by the dragon. They picked up 3 potions of water breathing and 1,000 gp. On their way to the next region, they found a dead adventuring group that included the paladin stewart of Dunador (who they had come to the dungeon in search of).

Region J: The group traveled through a burning hot region, where they found a tomb (which they wanted to rest in), but inside was the fallen celestial vampire Serratine and her 12 vampire spawn. Serratine charmed Melisana and Shuza, convinced them that Cyrlebrai (the solar leader of the celestials) was their true enemy, and sent them out with to kill him. Triniti and Tressa revealed their natural succubi forms to Melisana and Shuza so they could fly the women over the lava lake, to the lair of the celestials.

Back to Region G: After flying over the lava, the group went directly to the solar’s main room to confront him (with the succubi returning to elf form before entering). Cyrlebrai used his powers to get rid of the charm effect on the group and then they discussed a strategy for getting the 4 women out of the dungeon. They told Cyrlebrai about the frost giant caves and asked for him to send as many celestials as he could spare to go with them this time; in exchange, they promised to use their resources to send back an army to assist in defeating the demons and guarding this place. He consented that, if they would kill the abyssal basilisk that was in the region, then he would send 4 devas and his planetar assistant with them to defeat the frost giants. They killed the basilisk and then rested.

Back to Region O: The 4 devas and 1 planetar flew the ladies back to region O to fight the frost giants. The group finished off the rest of the frost giants who had previously defeated them, but all 5 of the assisting celestials died in the battle. They continued into the icy mines and killed 3 more frost giants; unfortunately, Tressa died in battle. They freed 48 slaves (1 dwarf fighter and 47 humans – all of whom they equipped with whatever they could - spears, swords, daggers, and rocks). The slaves told them not to rest, but to continue on, for the dungeon exit was nearby. The group killed 1 remhoraz and 1 frost giant werebear on their way to the exit tunnel; during the battle Triniti and a human slave died and Melisana was knocked unconscious.

In the exit caves, the group found the way blocked by 2 very strong frost giants. After 40 of the slaves spent 2 rounds throwing rocks, spears, and daggers at the giants they ran off into the mountains with the unconscious body of Melisana. Meanwhile, the dwarf fighter slave and Shuza tried to defeat the 2 frost giants; they ultimately failed, ending up dead in the cave with several of the human slaves that didn’t make it.

Melisana led the 40 surviving humans to her kingdom; along the way, she realized she was pregnant. When they arrived, she gave the bad news about the deaths of the others. While pregnant, she organized spending all of her kingdom’s resources to gather as many soldiers and adventurers possible to avenge the deaths of her adventuring party. She had also left detailed journals and maps, with as many details as she could recall from their visit to what was clearly the world’s largest dungeon. Melisana died giving birth to a half-giant boy. She had left instructions for him to be named Olwin. The royal wizard/sage Buvank (a pacifist) took care of Olwin as Dunador’s Soldiers marched back to the dungeon. The soldiers never returned.

The kingdom was invaded by monsters and Buvank had no option other than to flee. He brought Olwin to the wizards who had sent Furosa back to Oerth during the previous generation. Since then, the wizards had found an easier way to gate to that world and offered to send Buvank there with baby Olwin. Buvank gave away the last of the magic items of Dunador in exchange for gating him and Olwin to the Valley of the Mage on Oerth.

Yarth:
[The World’s Largest Dungeon]
Olwin Dunador was truly Prince Olwin Bolari-Furyondy-Dunador; as a half-frost giant (¼ fire genasi, ¼ human) child, he caused quit a bit of gossip in the Valley of the Mage. He had arrived shortly after Princess Uhuru of the Momboddo Empire of Yarth; she was the sister of Sagardson and, surprisingly, brought their half-brothers Kit Kota (the human son of Sagard and Ketza Kota) and Trom Wetleaf (the human son of Sagard and the islander Mowanna).

Furondy’s King Belvor V’s wife (the elf queen of Veluna) had just given birth to their half-elf son (a boy they named Belvor VI), but they travelled to the Valley of the Mage to meet their nephew Olwin and to discuss an alliance with Princess Uhuru. In speaking with Buvank, Belvor V learned of the quest of Yarth’s largest dungeon and immediately asked his wife to do the negotiations for the alliance. Belvor V (cleric) met with Sagardson (barbarian), Kit Kota (fighter), Trom Wetleaf (fighter), and his friend Levara Meneny (wizard) to form an adventuring company and seek out the lost fortune of his mother’s other children on Yarth.

They invited family friend Ernst Mordenkainen to join them as well, but he declined because he wanted to stay at home at that point to help raise his new daughter Cara.

Buvank agreed to let the group use one of his personal items along with a scroll of planeshift given to them by the Bolari family so they could planeshift to the entrance of the world’s largest dungeon on Yarth (the peaceful side with the dead titan, not the exit with the frost giants). Once there, they entered and the doors magically sealed behind them…

Region A: Belvor V, Levara, Sagardson, Kit, and Trom defeated: 12 troglodytes, 6 fiendish stirges, and 15 fiendish dire rats before resting. As they continued they killed 1 kobold wizard with 4 guards and a mount, several swarms of fiendish rats, and 10 fiendish darkmantles before resting again. They encountered and hired 2 lizardfolk guides: Kalhiss the ranger and Slissth the druid (with T’lakiss the medium-size pet viper). The group killed a fiendish owlbear, found lots of treasure, dealt with several traps, and moved on.

Region E: They took out 1 ghost, 5 shadows, 1 greaters shadow, and 1 necromancer before resting, getting tired of this region, and taking a side tunnel to another one.

Region F: The group killed 4 shadows, found the dead body and loot of a thief (with a bag of holding – so they went back and got some other loot from previous rooms). They killed a cryohydra, but the 2 lizardfolk guides died in the battle. They rested and headed south, passing through Region B to get to Region C – where the group spoke with the archon Zreno and gained access to the tunnels to get to the celestial base in Region G.

Region G: Cyrlebrai, the solar leader of the celestials, was happy to see the team here avenging Melisana’s adventuring party. Belvor V and Sagardson worked together to convince Cyrlebrai that he could do great good in the universe if he left the prison; Cyrlebrai said as long as the demon Krasveshk was imprisoned here, that he must stay and guard him. The group convinced Cyrlebrai to come with them and destroy Krasveshk and his minions. The battle consisted of not only Krashveshk the nalfeshnee, but also a glabrezu, a hezrou, and a marilith. The team brought along Cyrlebrai and 4 hound archons; all of the archons perished in the fight. They went and killed the last demon lord in the region and his minions. After that, they killed the 3 nighthag priestesses who had worshipped the demon and destroyed their chapel. They also took out 6 nasty ettins before killing Grelka (the high priestess of the demon temple).

Region J: Cyrlebrai didn’t want to leave without taking out his vampire enemy so he flew them up to Region J and they entered her sanctuary. The group took on Serratine the fallen celestial vampire and her 12 vampire spawn, ultimately destroying them all – but along the way Kit and Trom were killed by the monsters. They recovered a ring of wish with 1 wish left, but Cyrlebrai wouldn’t let them use it. They rested up with the solar asked them if they would be willing to also take out the temple of death before going to the frost giants. The group reluctantly agreed. The solar took them there; Sagardson was romancing Levara.

Region N: They destroyed 1 iron golem and 1 shield guardian, they passed through several traps, and they rested. They killed: 2 dread wraiths, 7 skeleton hordes, 1 wight horde, 3 old dragon skeletons, 1 mohrg horde, 1 allip, and 1 ghost fiend before resting again; Sagardson impregnated Levara. They killed Malchrisant and Ashril, “The Great Death” Bodak Destroyer, the wight bailiff, the ghast barrister, the wight scribe, and another iron golem before resting again. They killed “The Black Empress” heartless wight sorcerer, 2 more dread wraiths, and Azamond the tiefling lich before resting again. The group destroyed “The Forgotten One” ghost war fighter-cleric, 2 more dread wraiths, and a dread wraith lieutenant before resting again. They dealt with several traps and then defeated 11 animated spectral weapons before resting again. They killed 6 more dread wraiths, 1 ghoster fighter-rogue, and 10 mighty mohrg. They rested before fighting 1 vrock, 1 shield guardian, and 2 dread wraiths. They entered the central vault for this region, where they had to fight “The Worldeater” (a colossal undead nightcrawler megamonster) with an army of undead minions! Cyrlebrai and Belvor V both died while killing it, leaving only Levara and Sagardson to collect the magic items left behind (and there were a lot of them). Invistus the lich lord had teleported in; they destroyed him too.

Region O: Levara used her magic to fly the 2 of them to the lair of the frost giants. They killed 6 fire giants at the ice cave opening. They entered the room with the shrine to the god of winter and killed 2 frost giant clerics, 2 frost giant guards, and Jardarir (the leader of the frost giants). Sagardson died in the battle, but Levara survived and destroyed all of the holy symbols/relics/alters of the frost giants. She also found the loot from the previous adventurers who had tried to escape from the dungeon and the frozen titan Barcellus. Levara used the last wish from the vampire’s ring to free Barcellus. The titan thanked her and listened as she revealed what had become of the place and her fellow adventurers.

Barcellus went with Levara through the exit tunnel and killed the final frost giant there, but he refused to leave the place he was assigned to guard. Levara said she understood and she plane-shifted herself back to the Valley of the Mage to bring the bittersweet news of the events at the world’s largest dungeon of Yarth.

When Levara sold all of the loot, she ended up with 508,505 gp. She split it up into 4 shares (127,126 gp each) – giving one each to: the Valley of the Mage, Furyondy, the empire Sagardson was from, and herself. She also kept a few items for herself. When she realized she was pregnant with Sagardson’s child, she took time off to cross-train as a cleric (with Belvor V’s holy symbol) and gave birth to her daughter (3/4 human, ¼ elf) – whom she named Sagara.

Epilogue
Lavara and her daughter Sagara eventually left Oerth, when the Mordenkainen family asked Levara to coordinate them making a secret alliance with some powerful people on other worlds. Over time, Levara was able to bring Cara Mordenkainen to Toril and marry her off to D3 (a.k.a. Halifax), though Cara had adopted a last name from one of the noble families of Toril (so that the people of the Sword Coast would think D3 was marrying into a known noble family from that region).
