Logs 1326-1350: Sapphire Circle Part 2

1326: Szass Tam’s Vault of the Dracolich
Sources: Vault of the Dracolich Part 1
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1488 DR, Month 1, Day 1
After teleporting the others to Waterdeep, Syranna took the ones continuing on to the underground tunnels: Ryali, Aldea, Daen, Holic, and the elf rogue Rethin. At the tunnels, Syranna said that they were very brave and that (whether they succeed or not) she would tell their stories to her children, and hopefully one day, to her grandchildren. She wished them luck after pointing out that once they went down the tunnel and into Drechroyaster’s lair that they wouldn’t be able to teleport out and she’ll be busy so they would have to make their way back up to the magical forests of Cormanthor above them.

Syranna also explained more background info before teleporting out: after a previous adventuring group raided his lair, and because of his disagreement with the new direction of the Cult of the Dragon (focusing on living dragons instead of Dracoliches), Dretchroyaster has allied with Szass Tam. Szass Tam has sealed off most of the access tunnels and repopulated the dracolich’s lair with undead to guard what’s left of the dracolich’s treasure – but also to guard “what is most precious to Szass Tam.” This place used to be a temple of Bhaal, then the Cult of the Dragon had a base here protecting Dretchroyaster, but now it’s guarded by Szass Tam’s undead (and maybe some creatures working for Bane, who made a deal with Szass Tam).

After Syranna left, the group had to deal with a disintegration trap on the door into the lair. They actually found a way to use that to their advantage later. When they stepped inside, a “Dream” cleric of Bane manipulated them with a false reality. They all had to disbelieve the reality that played off of their strong emotions.

As they went through the lair they killed: 1 Bane cleric, 4 zombie troglodytes, 1 elf vampire spawn, 6 zombie lizardfolk, 1 zombie beholder, 1 she-lich (lover of Szass Tam named Silakulla), 1 death knight, 3 cambion, 1 umberhulk, and the simulacrum of the dracolich. They also destroyed the 4 idols of Szass Tam and rescued the drow named Stryke. Rethin the elf rogue died. This battle was the first time Holic had a bunch of wild magic go off, including: turning himself into a potted plant, turning 3 of them invisible, and making himself grow 8 inches taller.

They realized they couldn’t fight the actual dracolich yet so they left, fought an umberhulk in the tunnels, and met with a village of elves in Cormanthor who were friends of some river pixies. They traded magic items to the pixie leader in exchange for a plane-shift to the Feywild and back. While in the Feywild, the pixie contacted the “Great Spirit of the Feywild” who opened up a time pocket for the group to use to rest for 9 hours, getting back all of their abilities. They then asked the elves to come with them to finish off the dracolich, with 15 elves agreeing to help.

Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1488 DR, Month 1, Day 1
Sapphire Circle members Aldea, Holic, Daen, and Ryali went back into the lair of Dretchroyaster (Dretch) with their new drow ally Stryke and the 15 elves they recruited.

The group was ambushed by 2 invisible red wizards (who double-fireballed the elves, killing 10 of them in the first round). They then spoke to an evil cleric of Bane/Red Wizard through the door who warned them not to enter because Szass Tam’s soul belonged to Bane as per a deal that they had made. The group ignored him and proceeded. In the final room, they killed that cleric/wizard and took on the Draco-Demilich master of the lair (but most of the elves and the drow died). The battle was complicated with the 4 magic circles protecting Dretch. After they defeated Dretch, they destroyed his phylactery along with those of the she-lich and Szass Tam!

The group then went into the Earth Elemental Plane to rescue the 3 elves that fell through the portal. In there, they discovered a vault and magic lab belonging to Dretch. They looted the place and rested, finding lots of books in Dretch’s library. While resting, each of them read a tome: Aldea (Guide to the 9 Hells), Ryali (Demons & Devils: Identification Guide), Daen (Case Study of Asmodeus), and Holic (Eberron World Tome).

1328: Purchasing the Ruins of Leilon
Sources: Rise of Tiamat Part 3
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1488 DR, Month 1, Day 2
From Dretch’s Lab at the Earth Elemental Plane: Holic used his planeshift spell to bring himself, Ryali, Daen, Aldea, and their elf allies to Waterdeep. The elves thanked them and then headed home for Cormanthor. The group went to the bank to split up the loot and then went to speak with Sir Isteval. They accepted and prioritized the quests to go as a diplomatic envoy to the council of metallic dragons and to go help Prince Alagarthas fight Chuth; they accepted, but de-prioritized, the mission to rescue Maccath the Crimson from the white dragon in the Sea of Moving Ice.

They asked Sir Isteval to send a different group to go get Varram the White from his Yuan-Ti captors. They also gave Sir Isteval the green dragon mask to study/potentially destroy. Isteval also explained that the Council of Waterdeep wanted to wait to attack; the members feared that a strike could cause the cult to prematurely summon Tiamat in their defense; the coast wanted more time to prepare their defenses in case Tiamat and her dragon army defeat the heroes who try to stop her.

They found out that their Sapphire Coast “Kingdom” was making each of the 5 owners (Radcliff, Daen, Glora, Aldea, & Holic) a monthly 1,000 gp profit on top of the operations cost (and a “Funds Balance” account with savings for emergencies/special projects of 4,000 gp a month).

The group then spent a week of downtime for rest/paperwork/sorting and selling their extra loot/buying the ruins of Leilon (Radcliff, Daen, Aldea, Holic, Glora, & Ryali = each pays 8,333 gp of total 50,000 so that Ryali could have some claim to land in Leilon as they expand their territory).

Greystem I agreed to help develop Daen’s land in the Sapphire Coast with an adventuring group to try to clear out the Temple of the Frog God. Daen spent time with his family. Aldea spent time with Prince Alagarthas. Holic studied some magic items and made a mechanical dog to roam around “Tinker Town” (the village around his family’s manor).

1329: Revenge of the Black Dragon Twins
Sources: Rise of Tiamat Part 4
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1488 DR, Month 1, Day 13
Holic told his fellow Sapphire Coast leaders that he was inspired by the Eberron book. He asked them to consider spending group resources developing magic technology.

Akra arrived with info for Daen, Aldea, Holic, and Ryali: The group that got Varram the White from the Yuan-Ti found out the Cult of the Dragon has scheduled the rise of Tiamat to occur on the Mid-Winter Festival; originally the Cult of the Dragon’s leaders were going to wait until 1489, but they grew worried and thus decided to proceed with less loot/hostages, though they will also begin the ceremony if the Sword Coast army assaults their headquarters at the Well of Dragon. Akra also gave each person 2 magical full heal potions.

The group decided to go to speak with the silver dragons of the Sapphire Coast before going on the mission. When they got to the cave with the new metal doors built at the entrance, there were some nervous reddish-scaled kobolds who made them wait for a few minutes.

When the group went inside, there was an acid pit trap and illusions of the dragons being alive; it turned out to be an ambush by Voaraghamanthar-Waervaerendor (in his 2-headed ancient black dragon form) with his Adult Red Dragon ally, 3 Red Half-Dragon Assassins, and their 4 Kobold guards. After the group killed them, they looted their bodies but left the hoard of the silver dragons. Akra raised the silver dragons after the battle and they all discussed what happened, with the dragons revealing that VW told them Chuth was attacking Sir Isteval at the same time (to steal the Green Dragon Mask and return it to the Well of Dragons).

The group went to speak to Sir Isteval, who had been attacked by Chuth (who took the Green Dragon Mask after injuring the paladin); Isteval agreed to arrange a meeting of the Council of Waterdeep. Daen accepted the official kingship of Fenwick (with his sister acting as Stewart and a group of their people going to secure Dragonspear Castle). Holic sent a note for Tyra (asking her to help in the battle against Tiamat). The group spoke to the silver dragon again for advice in speaking to the Council of Metallic Dragons.

Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1488 DR, Month 1, Day 13
At the Waterdeep Council Meeting, the group (Aldea, Holic, Ryali, & Daen – with Akra) convinced the Zhentarim ambassador to allow the group to agree to give the metallic dragons up to 30% of Tiamat’s Hoard when they kill her (if the good dragons help). The group teleported to the Metallic Dragon Council and negotiated to give them land, the Well of Dragons, 15% of Tiamat’s hoard, and a Temple of Bahamut in the Sapphire Coast; the dragons accepted the offer and planned to join in on the attack on the morning before the Mid-Winter Festival.

Note: The Metallic Dragon Council consisted of: Protanther the Male Gold Dragon (leader of the council, former King of Justice – upset at humans and elves because of past actions such as Yuan-Ti, tiefling, and the elf incident of the “Draconage mythal”), Ileuthra the male brass dragon (neutral to the discussion at the beginning), Otaaryliakkarnos the female silver dragon (wanted support, recognition, respect for Bahamut), Nymmurh the male bronze dragon (likes the “lesser races” and wanted to help from the beginning), and Tazmikella the female copper dragon (lived amongst humans but had concerns).

The group convinced a dragon to teleport them to the capitol of Thay so they could talk to the leaders of the insurrection group. They spoke to the guards, an officer, and then Syranna and got her support (and for her to send an ambassador to Sir Isteval). The Red Wizards teleported them to Parnast, near the Hunting Lodge (they had to walk during the night), where they got the password from the Zhentarim and teleported to the Sea of Moving Ice: the lair of the white dragon!

When the group appeared in the ancient white dragon’s ice cave lair, she had 4 Ice Trolls and 11 Ice Toad minions. Aldea awesomely used her water manipulation abilities to sweep all of the minions into the freezing seawater and trap them in a whirlpool. The group battled the white dragon, who sent a magical message (via a 2-way messaging scroll) to ask Chuth for reinforcements to fight the group. At that point Chuth joined the battled with 2 goristro demons, an archmage, and gladiator cultists (after 2 rounds, a total of 12). The group eventually won the epic battle.

At the end of the battle, Maccath the Crimson (female tiefling) came down from above and agreed to return with the others. She thanked them for “rescuing” her, though she wasn’t exactly a prisoner; she had gone there doing magical research. Maccath announced she would be happy to leave with the group once she collected all of her tomes and research items; she mentioned that there were barbarians living up above on the glacier. The group also needed time to break the treasure out of the ice. And they needed to rest.

1331: The Sapphire Circle v. Tiamat
Sources: Rise of Tiamat Part 6
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1488 DR, Month 1, Day 15
Azel & Ylara defended Baldur’s gate against an army of red dragons and their minions. In doing so, they lost the majority of their Knights that worked for them. That means Baldur’s Gate could fall into disarray for a while, if they don’t hire or recruit enough fighters/mercenaries/guards.

Glora, Blueblood II, and their family members (in the Feywild) were attacked by a combined army of Dracotaurs and Green Dragons (with their minions). Borngray sacrificed himself to save the babies. The elder Blueblood used his god-like Feywild powers to destroy the evil army – but Ao then punished him and exiled him to the afterlife with Ehlonna and Corellon. Ehlonna also offered Mya a chance to enter the battle against Tiamat to take out the armies of dragons, dragonborn, and half-dragons so that those enemies would not be able to go into Tiamat’s Temple to kill Glora’s team. Mya contemplated the idea.

After bringing Maccath the Crimson to Waterdeep (and getting the loot from the dragon hoard from last time) – the group of Akra, Aldea, Daen, Ryali, and Holic went to trade out money/items, including Holic buying his Apparatus of Kwalish and 2 magic crossbows. The Queen of Daggerford was impregnated (again) by Daen. Alagarthas and Aldea got engaged with plans to have their wedding after the battle with Tiamat.

When the group rested Aldea realized she had been having a recurring vision-dream during her meditations for the last few days (and forgetting it each morning) – in the vision the Dryad who helped raise her told her, “Tarrasques are nomadic creatures who don’t have lairs.” During their group breakfast (Alagarthas, Glora, Ylara, Daen, Blueblood II, Holic, Aldea, Ryali, Daen, and Greystem II) the next morning, Aldea told the others about the vision. They figured out that it was about Dretch’s hoard so they had Greystem I check out the gem.

Everyone (except for Alagarthas) went with Glora’s plane-shift spell to Dretch’s lab; they discovered that Dretch’s place was a spaceship (Spelljammer ship) that had been claimed by Meanderson Mirth (of the planet Mirth) and his team of dwarves. Meanderson negotiated with them (for a page from each of the world tomes and 10% of the coinage from the true loot of Dretch).

After getting the loot, Meanderson took the group home to their castle and they gave him the pages from the tomes (labeled); he also traded out loot with them after explaining that his goal in life (for now) was to be a planar-traveling merchant of magic items.

The group then returned to the palace of Prince Alagarthas to find Akra, Greystem I, and Sir Isteval (who apologized for being late to breakfast and missing out on some stuff). Sir Isteval asked the group to go to Xonthal Tower to deal with the threat from the Cult of the Dragon there, but when the group had Greystem I teleport them to the location, they learned that the ceremony to bring Tiamat into the world was already taking place!

Greystem I took the group back to Sir Isteval so they could tell him to get his army to the Well of Dragons. Glora communed with Oran the Green Lord so that Mya would be notified that she was needed to hold back Tiamat’s army while the “Blue Team Alpha” group of the Blue Devil Gang and Sapphire Circle went to kick Tiamat’s butt!

Aldea suggested getting druids to use their water-based spells to flood the battlefield. They also made sure Isteval would tell Merej’s vampires to alert the Shadow/Justice League to be watching so they could capture Tiamat into the Domains of Dread the moment she started to discorporate from the material world.

Akra, Greystem II, Glora, Ryali, Aldea, Ylara, Azel, Daen, Holic, and Blueblood II teleported into the tunnels beneath the Well of the Dragon (with Greystem I’s assistance – though he then went out to help Isteval and the armies). Mya showed up, sacrificing herself by taking out a huge chunk of the army and making herself a primary target of the evil dragons while the Sword Coast’s army was still teleporting in.

Inside the Well of Dragons, the Temple of Tiamat had been brought into this world. When the group came in through the tunnel, they saw Tiamat fighting 2 dragons (Gwynn and G’Nash – with G’nash killed and Gwynn using her Staff of the Magi to explode on Tiamat, damaging her – though that banished Gwynn to another plane, where she would be trapped for a time).

The group battled for 30 seconds [and yet it felt like hours], killing Tiamat and her young black dragon henchman; The Shadow/Justice League used their powers to pull Tiamat into the Domains of Dread as a Domain Lord. The group revivified G’Nash and intimidated the wraith Naergoth Bladelord (who officially surrendered the Well of Dragons to them).

The group went through the tunnels with Blueblood II leading them out; he called out with his voice booming that Tiamat had been killed. The group then large joined the battle outside, with Tiamat’s dragons mostly fleeing for their own survival as more and more of Sir Isteval’s Sword Coast army was teleported in. Most of the evil dragons were too selfish to stay and fight and either teleported out or flew away (if they weren’t quickly killed).

Sir Isteval was then able to organize the distribution of Tiamat’s hoard to get the treasure back to all of the people and places that had been looted and needed to be rebuilt. The group realized they needed to rest and celebrate; Glora found her mother’s body and prepared the proper funeral ceremony.

Ao reprimanded The Shadow/Justice League; he punished them by closing off the Domains of Dread (with them inside together) and making it so that their powers would not longer be able to extend beyond that place).

With Glora and Blueblood II: Me’Urra suggested moving their Feywild home: Me’Urra, Randelial, Glora, Manthor, Blueblood, Jekk, Jamna, and the babies. Blueblood II sold his manor on the hill in Phandalin to Sildar Hallwinter since the family was planning to live in the Feywild.

Aldea and Prince Alagarthas spoke with King Melandrach, who said he wanted them to be engaged for at least a year before getting married. Furina showed up, excited to hear that her sister was getting married; she said she wanted to be a part of the wedding.

Azel decided to stay in his political position to try to take over the politics of Baldur’s Gate while Ylara rebuilt the guard; Daen sent his twin sister Haelyn (the Ranger) to help advise Azel. Azel & Ylara decided to get pregnant again.

Holic came up with the idea to create “The Brotherhood of Steel” after convincing G’Nash to come live at and invest in Tinkertown with the few Dragonborn family members who weren’t killed. G’Nash expressed that he wanted to lead Tinkertown since he was moving there.

When the group arrived at Meanderson’s new tower in Waterdeep for dinner (Glora and Blueblood II declined the invitation since they really want to retire to raise their children), Daen suggested they name it Watchtower; Meanderson said he liked it.

Over dinner, Meanderson explained the nature of the universe (the 1st Universe, the 2nd Universe, and the “3rd Universe” made to trap Zahadoom – with how the Battle with Y caused Kalibruhn-Toril to exist with the “3rd Universe” template pulled out into the 2nd Universe). The tiefling offered 3 options for the group to consider: (1) 1.1 million gp for non-interference from the planes for 1 year, (2) 100,000 gp per person for a magical “relocation program” [like Witness Protection], or (3) attempt to just make it on their own and risk being killed by assassins.

Azel and Ylara decided to go back to Baldur’s Gate since they viewed Meanderson as a coward, but before they could go, they were asked to help with a plan. G’Nash paid the million gold for non-interference from the other planes for 1 year. The group planned to get Tiamat’s hoard from her former lair in Avernus with Meanderson taking them part of the way; the group attacking Tiamat’s 5 ancient dragon lovers would consist of: Daen, Azel, Ylara, Aldea, Furina, Alagarthas, Akra, Greystem II, Holic, and Ryali. Meanderson took the group to Sigil, with a doorway to the town of “Ribcage” in Avernus to get a rock for plane-shift purposes (and to let their magic items get used to Avernus; while waiting, they checked out the marketplace and made some purchases/trades).

The group attacking Tiamat’s lair plane-shifted in and, after killing 2 (white and red) of the 5 ancient dragons, they realized they might all die. Daen sacrificed himself with a trick (bag of holding into portable hole) to send himself and 2 of the dragons (blue and green) into the Astral Plane. The remaining group members took out the black dragon (with Akra’s divine intervention from Bahamut giving her a dragon-slaying bonus to her magic mace). They quickly used all of their bags of holding to take the hoard.

Once back in safety, they had Meanderson help them retrieve Daen from the Astral Plane. They also gave the tiefling his share of the loot, as per their arrangement.

1333: Waiting for Asmodeus to Strike
Sources: Downtime
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1488 DR, Month 1, Day 19
About 300 family members of the people who had died in Leilon felt screwed from over when Lord Neverember sold the land to the Sapphire Coast; when they claimed they were angry with the Sapphire Coast, the Council Members were willing to offer them free land for them to live there. That appeased them and turned them against Lord Nevermber.

During the year, the council wanted to invest in Neverwinter and establish a propaganda campaign against Lord Neverember (48,000 gp from the group Funds Balance account) with another branch of both of their taverns from Waterdeep. For Leilon, they spent (16,000 gp from the Funds Balance Account) to rebuild. Ryali also spent some of her personal money to help rebuild them (20,000 gp). In Baldur’s Gate: Azel and Ylara spent their year to gain control of the city (with the Duke Council as advisors) after establishing a new army of guards (40,000 gp).

Daen bought some Waterdeep properties with his own money and then gave them to the SC, creating the Azure Ale House and the Blue Bar & Grill; he also put more money into community development (with infrastructure & hired Sapphire Coast guards), with a temple with an “All Faith Shrine” with Clerics working for them (and political donations for a total of 20,000 gp).

Holic created a faction: Mechanicus Imperium (with tinkerers, an “Empire of Knowledge”) with goals to research into technology, with advisors in governments, efficiency, with the goal of building personal mechanical guards (but the SC council members didn’t want a mechanical army to protect the coast, though some of them were fine with them being in Tinker Town); he also had the goal of recruiting every tinkerer in the Sword Coast to be a part of the faction to create a monopoly. Holic also started construction on his Faction Hall (with servants, rooms, etc.). In total, Holic spent 20,000 gp building up his faction.

For the capitol port town, the group setup embassies for all of the major powers of the Sword Coast (and then begin inviting other powers from the world as well). Glora voluntarily took “inactive status” on the council. The group found out that Radcliff had still been consulting the sphinx to make decisions (with hiring people to ask questions) so they decided to make it so that the council would have to vote in order to ask any more questions of it in the future.

The group convinced Gatrak to come live in the Sapphire Coast’s capitol and continue working with the dragon scales/hide that they sent him. Daen decided to hire a baby protection guard (7,500 gp for 10 skilled armed guards for a year). Daen got Greystem II to start a wizard school in the Sapphire Coast.

6 Months into the down time: Karathonia “Discretion” Tsephanyas showed up and introduced herself as Kara when she came to the group during one of their Sapphire Coast Council Meetings. She offered her help taking on Asmodeus and the group said they would get to know her for the next 6 months and then let her prove herself on the pirate mission…

The kids were born: (on Month 10, Day 13: Daen & Lady Daggerford had a baby girl while Azel & Ylara had quadruplets with 3 boys and 1 girl). Radcliff attempted to romance Kara and revealed his fear of dying in protection of the Sapphire Coast. Kara communed with her patron and learned that Asmodeus would likely send someone to avenge the slaying of Tiamat. Kara called a meeting for the group to discuss that.

At the end of the down time, a tiefling who called himself “The Darkness” approached Ryali, implying that she was a sleeper agent working for Asmodeus; he said he wasn’t her usual handler (which was Geno). She followed him to Waterdeep and warned Isteval that he was in danger (as well as the “key” he was protecting at the temple of Lathander in Waterdeep). The warning convinced him to recruit extra help to guard the place.

As for the pirate black market for magic items, Daen wanted to intimidate them (“persuade them”). The council discussed the idea of offering the pirates a chance to turn into a privateer navy working for the Sapphire Coast with a salary. Thus the group would need an admiral. Daen, Ryali, Kara, Holic, and Aldea went on a merchant ship to the pirate islands. Meanderson showed up and asked if there was room for one more person onboard, but Daen told him to go away (after Holic asked him to get him a Robe of Stars, for 250,000 gp).

The captain introduced them to Blando, the 1st mate (barbarian in tiny shorts). Holic decided to planeshift them out and back to the pirate island, where they found: Lady Laeren Tesper was the leader of the pirate island with “The Minotaur,” who had veto power over Tesper. She agreed to run the Sapphire Coast navy while the Minotaur stayed to run the pirate island; Holic had a wild night with the Minotaur.

When the group returned, they setup for their people to accept the navy. At dinner, they found out that Sir Isteval & the Temple of Lathander in Waterdeep were sucked into the 9 Hells (maybe 5 or 6 layers down) and that Daen’s sister Jalaine was taken by the Troll King.

Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 1, Day 19
Radcliff allowed Daen to take his Sending Stone so Daen’s group could communicate with Holic with it. Daen, his twin sister Haelyn, Aldea, & Greystem II gathered at Fenwick Castle, where a guard told them a note was left, signed by Zirithian (the male drow vampire, 20th level fighter, Champion of Orcus) saying Jalaine was taken as retribution for the slaying of Tiamat.

The note warned not to go after the Troll King (who was merely hired to kidnap Jalaine, for he was just a pawn in the grand scheme of things, a conveniently located paid mercenary). When Daen read the note, he felt the warmth of Azuth flow through him and he had a vision of an orange eyeball sphere with a bright sword coming down & destroying it on an evil alter.

Daen, Haelyn, Aldea, and Greystem II went into the Troll Woods, into a cave, where they fought: 3 chuuls and 10 trolls (and had to deal with a chain trap with bone spikes). This was the base of the Troll King and had a portal into the Feywild, to a conquered temple of Bahamut. At the temple, they fought: 5 Oni and the Troll King (and had to deal with a “Bahamut’s Breath” trap and multiple statue traps of radiant and cold damage).

They obtained the orange Eye of Moran sphere, a mithril eladrin Ring of Passage, an eladrin Ring of Fortune, a Mordant Spear, a Fomorian Life Force Amulet, and chests with gems. They also found a portal into the Shadowfell with drow markings on it that went to Zirithian’s base.

They used a magic spell to message Jalaine, who revealed that she was tortured and beaten (and threatened to be turned into a Vampire Spawn); she had overheard that Orcus wanted to take over the Citadel of the Raven Queen (since she was gone, trapped in the Domains of Dread – and it would extend his power as the “Prince of Undeath”), after which he would send an undead army with the Red Wizards who had been loyal to Szass Tam through Lord Neverember’s Shadowfell portal at Neverwinter to go attack the Sapphire Coast and try to take over the Sword Coast.

They messaged the other characters: Azel, Kara, Ryali, and Holic – who were in Waterdeep and had just met up with Akra and the High Cleric of Kelemvor (who told them he could teleport them to a demon chaos ship that they could try to take over or pay to help them go save Sir Isteval).

The groups collaborated info. Kara bought a Shadowfell rock from Meanderson’s shop at Watchtower; she and Holic plane-shifted to Jalaine, saved her, and plane-shifted out before the enemies could attack (10 winged drow vampire spawn, Zirithian, a Mindflayer, a Lich Lord, some web golems, a death knight, a rakshasa, and a group of elite drow warriors).

After getting Jalaine back safely and contacting the other group: Azel, Kara, Ryali, Holic, and Akra went to Castle Naerytar to speak with Radcliff and Greystem I (the 2 of them were meeting about the possibility of getting Mordenkainen to come use the old spell Mordenkainen’s Disjunction to get past the foyer of the Temple of the Frog since, after the Spellplauge, the spell had stopped working for all of the wizards of this world – but they hoped Mordy himself might be able to still cast it). The group alerted Radcliff to prepare the defenses, especially in Tinker Town, and hopefully with the Silver Dragons helping.

The High Cleric of Kelemvor got Azel, Kara, Ryali, Holic, and Akra on track for their teleport to the chaos ship, so they could make some progress rescuing Sir Isteval from the 5th Layer of the 9 Hells.

Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 1, Day 19
Ryali, Kara, Holic, Azel, and Akra arrived on the Shaviathan (in a Chaos Rift, above a storm of chaos energy) and fought: 1 marilith, 3 nalfeshnee, 3 hezrou, 4 goristro, 1 ancient red fiend-dragon, and the balor demon master of the chaos ship. They killed most of the enemies (though they used banish on a couple of them, intimidated the fiend-dragon to teleport away, and convinced the balor master to surrender to them).

The master brought them to Avernus and through the River Styx, down to the 5th Layer of the 9 Hells, to an iceberg that had the stolen Temple of Lathander with Sir Isteval. The balor teleported out after explaining how to use the Anarch Sphere that controlled the ship (though he assured Kara that they would meet again some day).

The team hopped down onto the iceberg and saw the dead army of devils, along with all of the dead clerics of Lathander. Sir Isteval was also dead, but his ghostly form was still protecting the altar with the hidden key that Asmodeus wanted (which was said to be able to merge Asmodeus with the legendary sword Fragarach).

One lone ice devil (the one connected to the iceberg) remained, fighting Isteval’s spirit when they arrived. Sir Isteval thanked them, saying he knew they would come. They killed the ice devil leader and Isteval opened up the alter for them. Holic destroyed the key, which created a large explosion that also took out Isteval’s spirit and knocked down Akra. As the iceberg fell apart, the group flew back out onto their chaos ship.

They flew the ship, Shaviathan, to an empty ice cave and rested for an hour. During that time, an erinyes came out on patrol and questioned them. Kara used her personal connections to convince the devil woman to go away. The group plane-shifted back to Waterdeep, shrank the ship down, and put it into the Anarch Sphere.

They went to arrange respectful funeral services for Sir Isteval; they spoke with the High Cleric of Kelemvor, who congratulated them and offered them all jobs working as agents of Kelemvor (Holic said he’d think it over while the others politely declined). The group rejoined with Daen’s group, returned to Naerytar Castle/Cobalt Castle, and took a long rest.

Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 1, Day 20
Azel, Daen, Aldea, Kara, Ryali, Holic, Greystem II, and Akra had rested at Cobalt Castle. They received several visitors with information: Alagarthas came to get Aldea, who agreed to leave with him to stay safe and finalize their plans; the High Cleric of Kelemvor said his church would reward the group if they could obtain the Wand of Orcus and give it to him (presumably for Kelemvor to destroy); a paladin of Bahamut showed up to take Akra away to start trying to fix “Bahamut’s Embarassment,” though she said she might need the group’s help when they finish their current mission; Jalaine Lenore said Daen’s wife had taken over ruling their kingdom and that the Sword Coast needed a new military leader as a symbol of strength (with Isteval dead) so Azel agreed to go with her and have her help with politics in Baldur’s Gate while he became this new symbol of respect and power throughout the region; and Greystem I told them he had tasked Meanderson with finding Mordenkainen to help with the Frog Temple situation.

The Greystems, Holic, Ryali, Kara, and Daen went to Watchtower in Waterdeep and met with Meanderson and Mordenkainen. Mordy agreed to use his disjunction spell on the temple to get rid of the temporal stasis energy that has locked something away in there for hundreds of years; he just said he needed to wait a couple days to get the ok from his buddy Elminster to use the forbidden spell on this world.

Mordy also convinced the group that since he needed the Greystems to help him analyze the magic on the temple, the adventuring group should take Meanderson with them (who had apparently been telling Mordy that he wanted the respect of the Sapphire Circle). They realized Meanderson worships the Raven Queen and was insulted that Orcus was trying to take her power. After the wizards left to go analyze the Frog Temple, the group had Meanderson get them some magic items and then they showed off their chaos ship to him.

Ryali, Kara, Daen, Holic, and Meanderson plane-shifted to the Shadowfell and fought: a group of random zombies, skeletons, and ghouls; 2 drider; 10 elite drow warriors, 1 death knight, 1 rakshasa, 1 lich lord, 1 mindflayer, 2 web golems, and 10 winged drow vampirespawn. This battle was Holic’s first use of Meteor Storm, which turned out to be a highly effective spell. They went into the main room with Zirithian and talked with him.

Daen tricked Zirithian into handing him his magic sword Nightbringer (which was the sword from Daen’s previous vision from Azuth). Daen destroyed the Eye or Moran with Nightbringer on the Altar of the Ghoul-Sea (with a statue of Orcus attached to it), thus setting off the radiant energy below that killed all of the members of the ghoul army beneath them. The group fought and destroyed Zirithian, with Ryali [natural 20!] staking him in the heart with the magical armor-piercing wooden mini-spear given to her by Meanderson.

The group attained some interesting loot, including: a magic drow skull that allowed a cantrip of Necrotic Blast, a belt of flying, a headband that doubled the length of a breath weapon or cone effect, and the 5 Key Rings of the Citadel of the Raven Queen.

Rather than press on and fight Orcus with his defenses at the Citadel of the Raven Queen, the group went back to Meanderson’s Watchtower in Waterdeep and then their base at Cobalt Castle to rest up. Meanderson plane-shifted to the Eberron world, got Holic an experimental small-size warforged scout body, and helped him transfer himself into the new body. With his mechanical body, Holic became a living construct that could technically live forever (if he’s never killed) without having to become a lich/undead.

Before going after Orcus, the group accommodated Greytem I’s request and teleported out to Mordy at the Frog Temple, where a white tendril of energy extended from the inner doors (the outer doors were open, exposing the foyer, where the inner doors were sealed by temporal stasis energy) and touched Holic. He phased out of time for a few seconds and saw a man standing in front of the temple (in a different location than the Sword Coast) looking through some sort of advanced spyglass device out past a body of water, into a city in a distant valley where there were metal guards (similar to warforged), technologically advanced buildings, and a mysterious hooded man on a fiendish-looking crimson horse with a demonic looking horn coming out of its head.

Holic told the others about his vision and Kara reached out touching it, phasing out for a few seconds and being sent to that same moment in time (but standing back a few feet looking at Holic and the human looking through the technological-spyglass device).

Intrigued by this incident and Mordy’s claim that he thought this temple was probably the missing Frog Temple from Oerth from long ago (from an area that was mysteriously covered in magical ice – thus making this temple a “World Hopper” similar to Maure Castle with a self-defense magical plane-shifting ability that could have caused it to leave Oerth when the magical ice covered that kingdom [possibly from an experiment by ancient Suel Power Mages or by the divine powers of the Oerth god Vatun or – who knows what?]) the group decided to bring Mordy, the Greystems, Meanderson, and a few Azuth clerics with them to their question-answering Sphinx statue.

With answers to their questions, the Sphinx revealed: the crimson horse was a manifestation of “utter chaos” that turned some of the ancient elves that were turned into drow into powerful beings called Dark Ones who were obsessed with the Elder Elemental Eye/Tharizdun/Tharizdoom/Zahadoom/Y; the rider on the horse was Asmodeus (said to be the most paradoxical agent of Chaos, since he’s lawful but tricks people with chaotic effects from his deals with them) from long ago when he went to visit a city of immortal beings in an attempt to become god-like, like them; not even the Sphinx could see through the temporal energy shielding to determine who or what was being held in stasis inside the temple (though the group speculated that it was potentially some survivors from the region of Oerth who were warned about the magical ice or somehow had enough time to try to stasis themselves before it hit); specific steps that could be taken to redeem Asmodeus and get him to repent his evil ways would include finding and destroying the magic items that were made when Tharizdun corrupted/tricked Asmodeus into allowing part of his powers to be used to make those magic devices – those devices took away Asmodeus’ goodness; and since Kara is the daughter of Asmodeus she would have the best chance (of anyone) of trying to convince her father to repent.

When Mordy found out about Kara’s origin he pointed out that she doesn’t seem to have manifested any god-like powers, which means it’s possible she’s been lied to and isn’t the true biological daughter of Asmodeus (maybe an adopted daughter?) or that for some reason she didn’t inherent any divine essence or she hasn’t figured out how to harness those powers yet. Meanderson hadn’t asked a question yet; he said he was saving his question for later – maybe to ask something about the Raven Queen.

Sources: 4E’s H1-3/P1-3/E1-3 Series Part 4, Blackmoor DA1-4 Part 1, Princes of the Apocalypse Part 1
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 1, Day 21
Daen, Kara, Ryali, Holic (now calling himself “Mechanos” because of his machine body), Meanderson, Mordenkainen, the Greystems, and a few Azuth clerics were still at the Sphinx statue at Naerytar/Cobalt Castle. Daen and Mechanos convinced Meanderson to use his Sphinx-question to ask what/where the 4 items containing the split “goodness” of Asmodeus were; the Spinx explained that what they were (4 weapons given to certain Primordials) but that they disappeared long ago and their current location was shielded (the group later realized this meant they were probably in the Temporal-Stasis energy at the Temple of the Frog).

Tinker Town Chief Builder Smoles the Gnome delivered 5 Holic-Tron winged golembots prototypes for them to use in their battle in the Citadel of the Raven Queen. One of Kara’s Patron’s servants arrived with dire news for her – Orcus had been using a powerful primordial to get shards of primordial energy, but had now killed the primordial that he had enslaved, thus gaining its energy as well – harnessed into a large energy shard that he’s using to make himself even more powerful.

Addditionally, the FON (Followers of Nnyl/Nnylna) were battling Orcus’ minions for control of the Citadel of the Raven Queen. Daen, Kara, Ryali, Mechanos, and Meanderson used their special Raven Queen rings to teleport into the Citadel in the Shadowfell…

Meanwhile, the Battle for the Sword Coast began: Mordy joined the Greystems, Radcliff, the Sapphire Coast’s army, G’Nash, the 2 Silver Dragons, and Tinker Town’s defenses against an army of undead, demons, demonic undead, what looked like an undead tarrasque, and the evil Red Wizards leading them. Tinker Town was demolished, Maure Castle teleported out when too many meteor storm spells hit it, Mordy was killed/raised as a zombie, G’Nash and the silver dragons were killed, Greystem I took Mordy’s backpack with his spellbook and got himself to safety.

Radcliff rallied the forces and won the battle, but some of the Red Wizards had teleported around to Cobalt Castle and killed servents there (also destroying the Sphinx statue) before being killed by Greystem I who had gone there to be safe.

Orcus already had control of the Citadel when the group teleported in and thus was able to trap them in a waiting chamber room and taunt them while trying to convince them to bow down to him, admit his superiority, and become his slaves. Daen, Ryali, and Mechanos went along with it as a ploy to try to get out of the room but Kara refused and Meanderson called Orcus a “son of a bitch” while saying he blamed Orcus for the death of his father. The 5 Holic-Tron robots busted through the wall and got them out of the waiting room, where they met up with a vampire FON who instructed them about how to get to the chamber with Orcus and Doresain; the FON were taking out the minions of Orcus.

Meanderson, Mechanos, Ryali, Kara, and Daen fought Doresain and Orcus, killing Doresain and knocking Orcus unconscious (after realizing Lord Neverember was secretly a follower of Asmodeus and was the one who tricked Orcus into setting all of this up, weakening both the Sapphire Coast and Orcus at the same time); they brought Orcus back to his own plane in the abyss and killed him there, but that released the primordial energy with the essence of Timesus, thus exploding and causing the group to be ripped through time and space (destroying the Holic-Trons – except for HT-3, who seemed to spark back to life somehow [with the spirit of Orcus in him] as he was thrown out somewhere into the time-stream) until a white tendril latched onto Kara and Mechanos. The white tendril dropped the group off at the time and place of the vision from the Temple of the Frog with Saint Stefan outside looking through his techno-spyglass at the City of the Ancient Elder Gods/Immortals.

The group spoke with Saint Stefan (who claimed he was also from another world and crashed there in a spaceship; Mechanos agreed to try to help fix the ship after they dealt with their current situation) and realized they were in the past, in the Blackmoor region of Oerth. The powerful primordial Timesus showed up saying he sensed a disturbance in Time. The group came out and openly discussed the situation with Timesus and Stefan, explaining about the Temple of the Frog in the future and how they’ve now realized that they were probably the ones locked away in temporal stasis energy the entire time.

Since they told Timesus they were sent back in time when they freed his spirit and that their ultimate goal was to defeat Asmodeus (which was also the goal of Timesus, who blamed Asmodeus for betraying some Primordials and causing a civil war amongst them), Timesus helped them put together a plan to go get the 4 weapons they need both to free the goodness of Asmodeus and to use as anchors for the temporal-stasis energy.

Daen and Ryali watched as Saint Stefan and his frog-people evacuated the temple. They rested inside. Meanderson and Kara found Asmodeus and the Crimson Horse of Utter Chaos in the City of the Gods and had a moment with a peaceful discussion with Asmodeus. Mechanos also went around in the City of the Gods, but he was trying to get blueprints for technology stuff. He met up with and agreed to work with the gnome Kwalish (who was trying to buy citizenship sponsorship from the immortal known as Draconias, who wanted pixie slaves as payment and thus the deal didn’t go through). Mechanos found a random Immortal lady to trick to get him blueprints for a lamppost, a techno-building, and a jetpack. After that, he rejoined the rest of his party.

The next day, Timesus had news of a location (an Elemental Rift) with a meeting between the current 4 Primordial/Elemental Princes (of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth) who had the 4 weapons given to them by “Tripoli” (EEE/Y/Tharizdun/etc.). The group used their Chaos Ship to go confront them. At first they thought they would have to battle the group, but Mechanos tricked the 4 Primordial Princes into battling each other. When the Earth Prince was the last one standing, the group finished him off; they ended up with all 4 of the weapons they needed.

Mechanos volunteered to stay behind since they only had 4 Primordial Anchor-devices and he figured that his mechanical body would allow him to live forever to catch up with them in the future or Timesus would find a way to slingshot him into the future at some point.

Daen, Kara, Ryali, and Meanderson thanked him; they went into the Temple of the Frog and Timesus gave up part of himself to lock them away in temporal stasis… and they were un-paused when Greystem I freed them; they saw the Greystems standing with the open doors to the temple, with the Azuth clerics behind them. They got an update about the battle and found out it took Greystem the 10-day to unfreeze them and thus it was time for Aldea’s wedding (after going to the church of Kelemvor and giving them the Wand of Orcus so they could send their people on a quest to destroy it).

Aldea had a beautiful wedding with all of her friends and allies in attendance. Kara used her connections to arrange a meeting with her father in the Hells. Ryali, Daen, Meanderson, and Kara showed up there and convinced Asmodeus to send his servants and guards out of the room because it was a private matter. Kara convinced her father to destroy the items (but the group had to make an official deal with him, during which Meanderson negotiated for 1 million gp and Daen for a future favor as determined by Asmodeus).

When Asmodeus destroyed the 4 weapons, he realized his goodness and it transformed him back into a Solar-looking Angel! He dropped to the floor crying, lamenting what he had done as his evil self for thousands of years. He then explained that he was never really a god and that the sword Fragarach had Azuth’s essence stored in it. He destroyed the sword and freed Azuth. He asked the group to go into hiding with him while they figured out a plan for his redemption, hopefully to kill the devils of the Hells or perhaps even collapse and destroy the 9 Hells entirely. They agreed to go hide/rest with him and come up with a plan.

1338: Bahamut’s Embarassment
Sources: Madness at Gardmore Abbey Part 1
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 2, Day 2
Ryali returned to Cobalt Castle (while Meanderson remained hidden with the others trying to make plans on how to deal with the 9 Hells). While bathing, Ryali saw a mark, like a tattoo, on her body (it’s difficult to notice since it’s on her back shoulder area) but it’s white in the shape of the Primordial-anchor weapon that held her in stasis for thousands of years. Akra and her husband Plum “Mulp” Corlinn showed up and asked for her help with the “Bahamut’s Embarrassment” situation.

They heard from the servants that Princess Jalaine Lenore had Lord Neverember arrested for his crimes and sentenced to be executed. Jalaine was attempting to takeover political control of Neverwinter for her family. Aldea & Prince Alagarthas went on their Honeymoon into the Feywild; while there, they told Glora & Blueblood II about recent events and Blueblood II declared he felt it was safe to return to the world (though, just to be safe, he decided to go out and check on things while the rest of the family stayed behind). When Blueblood II returned, he visited with Radcliff and found Akra, Plum, & Ryali prepping to go adventure and thus he joined them.

Akra revealed they needed to go to Gardmore Abbey; Blueblood II knew of a story about a wizard from there: the half-elf wizard Vandomar sealed himself and his love the human Elaida inside his tower when the area was overtaken by demons, but she was already killed and he tried to find ways to bring her back. The town of Winterhaven was located on the East Way, between the nations of Sembia and Cormyr. Due to its location in the middle of the Thunder Peaks, it was not uncommon for the inhabitants to be attacked by monstrous races such as kobolds and goblins. Nearby Gardmore Abbey was built over 350 years ago (at the ruins of an ancient Minotaur temple). The paladins of Bahamut held the place, fighting off monsters in the area for a long time, until they were corrupted by a horrible artifact tainted by evil: a cursed Deck of Many Things.

Bahamut told Akra there were 22 cards total that needed to be reassembled so the curse on Gardmore Abbey could end and the Deck could be destroyed. The matter had become urgent because a rival-adventuring group was exploring the site, trying to collect the cards of the Deck of Many Things for their own selfish uses; if they recombined the cards together, it should act as a typical Deck of Many Things. While the cursed cards were separated, they could be attuned to for magical effects; when being used, each one created a magical glowing shadow on the ground with that card’s symbol projected.

With a map, Blueblood II teleported them (himself, Ryali, Akra, & Plum) to Winterhaven – where they spoke with the retired paladin Sir Oakley (who asked them to cleanse the Abbey of evil. Berrian Velfarran was an eladrin who wanted to use the Deck to somehow cut off the Feywild from the world, to protect the Eladrin people from the people of the prime material plane.

Vadin Cartwright was an evil insane priest of Tharizdun (the true Tharizdun, according to him, who whispers in the darkness); he caused this whole mess and originally came to steal a vial of liquid that he believed contained the consciousness of the “True Tharizdun” (who was locked away from existence when Zahadoom took his place). Vadin has sent this vial away, where he hoped others would openly figure out how to free the essence of the “True Chained One.”

They dealt with the snobbish Eladrin and his guards/animals. They spoke with the rival adventuring party: sending the dwarf off to recruit Moradin followers for a combined new temple with Bahamut, hiring the half-orc barbarian to work with them, and angering Lady Tam (who said she would scry on her sister’s journal to see who has it and visit vengeance upon them). The group fought off an “army” of monsters at Gardmore Abbey: 3 ogres, 1 oni, 1 ettin, 1 hill giant, 17 orcs, 1 orc chieftan, and 3 barlgura demons.

The group went to the temple and spoke to the main enemy, the red dragon named Mekkalath (with his 10 red kobolds and 5 red dragonborn followers); Mekkalath told them all about the green dragon Vorgansharax, who was based in the Phlan area (with plans to take it over), who took the Tharizdun vial (so it could be studied by people from the cult of the Elder Elemental Eye). The group made a deal with the dragon that they would get all of the lost cards together, he would cleanse the temple, he would pull 3 cards from the deck, and then he would destroy the deck to end the curse.

They went to the wizard’s tower and spoke with the lich there, discovering that he was mourning for his lost love; they defeated the flesh golem and made a deal with the wizard to do a true resurrection spell. The next morning, they brought his lover back to life. The lich and his Paladin lover said they would help the group with the Phlan/Tharizdun vial situation they learned about in exchange for the group helping them get the lich’s soul back so he could be mortal again and be with his lover.

1339: The Cursed Deck of Many Things
Sources: Madness at Gardmore Abbey Part 2
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 2, Day 2
At the Watchtower battles, the half-orc barbarian and Plum Corlinn both died. The group killed: 5 black puddings, 2 rock mimics, 4 aberrant catfolk, and an alien beholder. They went to the graveyard/catacombs, where they had an epic battle and killed: 10 ghasts, 14 minotaur skeletons, 1 flameskull, 4 mummies, 2 mummy lords, 5 lesser vampire spawn, 1 vampire lord, 3 corrupt devas, 2 harpies, 6 wraiths, and the cleric-lich Vadin Cartwright. After the battle, they rested.

The group brought the cards to Mekkalath, who ended the curse and pulled from the deck [getting 3 wishes, losing 2 points of INT, and gaining an experience level]. Mekkalath used 1 of his wishes to destroy the deck, a 2nd wish to de-lichify Vandomar, and accepted 400,000 gp from Akra and Ryali. Akra said she would stay with Sir Oakley to reestablish the church there, but Vandomar and Elaida will be joining Ryali and Blueblood to continue the adventures of the Sapphire Circle. They rested again; this time Bahamut came to them in visions and offered them blessings: Ryali accepted magical resistance and Blueblood II chose to become a half-dragon.

1340: The Vanquishers v. Tyranthraxus
Sources: DDEX1 Phlan Series
Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 2, Day 5
Blueblood II, Ryali, Vandomar, and Ealida visited with the sage in Winterhaven before leaving to go to Phlan; the sage asked them to acquire some more books for him when they go to Phlan. Vandomar teleported them to the new location, where they discovered Phlan was surrounded by a super magical thorn sphere growth that prevented them from teleporting out.

Blueblood II used his new half-dragon body to convince 2 troll guards on patrol to give them info and take them to their leader. They found out that Vorgansharax (the Green Dragon) was in some sort of secret meeting but that there was someone posing as Tiamat at the ruins of Sokol Keep so they went there.

The group spoke with the false Tiamat (who was male instead of female; they later realized this was the infamous villain of the Pool of Radiance, Tyranthraxus, who was using the power of the backup Pool of Radiance to enhance himself and the thorn wall). Blueblood II bluffed that they were “The Vanquishers” of the Sapphire Circle to try to build up their credibility. The false Tiamat eventually agreed to have one of his servants bring them to Vorgansharax’s secret meeting with his black dragon allies (who were upset that they had been given the sewers to control and not the noble district like they thought they’d be getting).

They went to a pyramid location, to its underground rooms, and interacted with both factions: Vorgansharax’s crew and the black dragons (who were known as the Foulwater Clan, led by Rythnax and the elder Throstulgrael). The group made a deal with Throstulgrael that he would pay them 400,000 gp in exchange for them killing Vorgansharax. The Foulwater Clan went outside to take out the minions while the team killed Vorgansharax and his 6 green dragonborn guards. They reported their success to the Foulwater Clan and accepted a mission to rid the city of the lady cambion Surasial (and her army of 35 thugs/thieves & 1 wizard lady). Before going back into the main city, they rested for an hour.

The group gathered the mercenaries and hired Surasial to help them eliminate the EEE Cultists in Mulmaster, where they learned Vorgansharax had sold the Vial of “The True Tharizdun.” Unfortunately, they couldn’t teleport out yet so they went to the caves that had the Pool of Radiance Resurgent. At the caves, Blueblood II stepped down into the evil pool and felt a connection with Tyranthraxus (which turned him into a thrall for about 12 seconds). Ryali, Vandomar, and Elaida had to fight Blueblood II and 5 half-dragons calling themselves the “True High Clerics of Tiamat” who came to aid Blueblood II. The team destroyed the crystal in the center of the pool and ended its magical effects. They then convinced the Tiamat clerics to join with them to fight the false Tiamat. The group rested again.

Surasial donated 1 of her fighters to the group going after Tyranthraxus while she took the rest of her mercenary crew to Mulmaster to start gathering info and dealing with the EEE cultists. She said for them to meet up with her team at the Drooling Goblin Inn of Mulmaster.

The group battled and defeated Tyranthraxus (the false Tiamat) with 1 elite red half-dragon, 7 dragonborn guards, 2 kobold sorcerers, and 9 kobold archers. The baby red dragon that was there didn’t fight and ended up bonding with Ryali after she got the killing blow on the false Tiamat. The group got the Tiamat body this time and made plans to cut up the wings to make matching group cloaks. After the battle, of course, they needed to rest over night.

They went to City Hall and confronted/killed the 2 Black Dragons with their elite half-dragon guard (after the group got their reward and convinced the weaker one to reveal the swamp locations of the Foulwater Clan treasure hoards). The group also secured some tomes from the library (including 1 about Myth Drannor) and returned the treasure that belonged to the city. Ryali took the baby red dragon hunting. The Zhentarim agent from the city government thanked them and said they would erect a shrine of Bahamut as a sign of appreciation for their assistance. With the town liberated, they decided to rest again for a day.

Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 2, Day 9
Ryali (with her baby red dragon), Blueblood II, Vandomar, and Elaida went to collect the treasure from the 2 black dragons they killed. They convinced 24 kobolds to stand down and then went and dealt with another 32 kobolds. The 2 groups of kobolds ended up rushing out to fight one another for ownership of the caves (and a chest with a gem and 10 gp that Blueblood decided to leave behind for them).

The group got several useful magic items and several more that they went back to the Sapphire Coast and managed to sell. They also received a good amount in gold. While at the port city, Vandomar and Elaida filled out official paperwork to be married with plans for a ceremony in the future and put all of their money in a joint bank account (with a will that, until their first child is born, if they died and can’t be brought back, their money will go to the Sapphire Circle Adventuring Group). The group gave their false-Tiamat hide to Gatrak for him to make their 4 cloaks (red fade to black, hoping it will be resistant to fire, cold, lightning, poison, and acid). Blueblood II finally collected his profits from the Phandelver Mines for the last 2 years.

Elaida researched Mulmaster and found out they: had a ruling Council of 16 nobles, representing the interests of the 49 noble houses of Mulmaster (while the average citizen lived an oppressed existence); resources were hoarded by the powerful; crime, corruption, and fear were commonplace. The Church of Bane openly held power. It was illegal to cast spells/use magic inside of Mulmaster unless you were of a certain rank of privilege within the city (and wearing the proper identification).

They teleported to Mulmaster and realized the guards were sleazy men who wanted bribes for just about everything. They went to the Drooling Goblin Inn, where Blueblood II almost got into a fight and almost drank a mug of ale in which a man poured a sleep potion (to try to kidnap him and take his dragon’s horn). They eventually met up with their contact from the mercenaries and learned that there was a fancy ball being held in town (by Lady Astrid Saj, a wealthy noble hoping to elevate the status of her family) with some of the leaders of the Mulmaster EEE Cult. They decided to forge an invitation and go the next day, after having some fancy clothes made, to try to get the EEE Cultists to tell them where they could find the vial.

Deciding to leave the slums, the group went to the Noble District of Mulmaster and attained new sleeping accommodations. Ryali arranged for their clothes to be made and had fun interacting with the spoiled 12-year old child of the female tailor. Unfortunately, many people in the city were racist against elves. Blueblood II became drinking buddies with the youngest son of the Sylvanslayer family and almost walked Ryali into a trap with 12 armed Sylvanslayer Knights (who worshipped Bane – though one of the sons had either an Umberlee or Water symbol on a necklace).

Blueblood II also met a mysterious Dwarf at the library while trying to research EEE/Tharizdun; the man tried to recruit Blueblood II and offered him code language to use with a contact at the party. The sages there had a book with Elminster’s writings detailing conversations with Mordenkainen from Oerth telling about the Temple of Elemental Evil, the Battle of Emridy Meadows, Elster the Gnome, and the investigations of Ehlonna’s Avengers into Y/Tharizdun (culminating in their defeat of the 2nd army of Elemental Evil and their battle to destroy Y). Blueblood II offered 50 gp for a copy of the book and the sages said he could pick it up in a month’s time.

Posing as Lord Bluescale and his elf guard, dressed in their new fancy clothes, Bloodblood II and Ryali went to the noble’s ball. They realized Saul Footman, the halfling butler, was suspicious of them being there. They attended an auction in which a man named Lord Highgale bought a trained Hippogriff. Blueblood won a bid for a legendary elf moonblade, but got them kicked out after insulting the woman who was bidding against them.

Outside, they bribed the guards and paid their fines. Lord Highgale approached them and turned out to be a contact with the Air Elemental Cult known as the Howling Hatred. He attempted to recruit them and arranged a lunch the next day with his leader, the female winged elf Lady Aerisi Kalinoth. Elaida and Vandomar weren’t doing much other than hanging out with the baby red dragon at their room at the inn.

At their lunch meeting with Lady Kalinoth (who claimed to be the Prophet of Yan-C-Bin, the Elemental Prince of Air, and had the legendary spear Windvane – which Ryali recognized from her time in the past as a replica of the one from the Primordial Princes), Blueblood II and Ryali convinced her that they wanted to release Tharizdun from the vial and that they were willing to sacrifice themselves; Blueblood II got himself initiated into the Howling Hatred while Ryali claimed to have greater allegiances. After that meeting, they went to the library and lured out the Dwarf. They convinced him to arrange a meeting with Lady Vanifer, the Tiefling leader of the Fire Cult, the Eternal Flame in Waterdeep.

Ryali and Blueblood II teleported to Waterdeep. Lady Vanifer and a bodyguard showed up, but she pretended to be someone else at first to check them out. When Vanifer showed them her blade Tinderstrike (bonded with Imix the Elemental Prince of Fire), Ryali recognized it as a replica of her Primordial Anchor weapon that was destroyed in freeing the goodness of Asmodeus. Ryali showed her magic marking on her skin from the Anchor that Timesus bonded her with and claimed that she, not Vanifer, should be the true leader of the Eternal Flame Cult. They made a deal that Vanifer would assume leadership of the Greater Temple linking all 4 Cults while Ryali stepped into her place. She said they could have a ceremony ready in 2 weeks, but Ryali and Blueblood II intimidated Vanifer and talked her down, saying that she would prepare the ceremony whenever they told her to.

Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 2, Day 12
After their dinner meeting with Lady Vanifer, Ryali and Blueblood II went to the Sapphire Coast’s port capitol where they got Gatrak to rush their cloaks so they could take them to go get enchanted. Blueblood II bought some new armor. They went back to Mulmaster and rested for the evening with their buddies Vandomar, Elaida, and the baby red dragon.

The group left the city and plane-shifted to the Feywild. They gathered the Thoron-Holimion family: Me’urra, Glora, Manthor, Randelial, the babies, Jamna, and Jekk. They convinced Me’Urra to help them (mentioning the Purple Elder One being involved with the EEE Cult with the Purple Stone in the center of the Greater Temple symbol). They also encouraged Me’Urra to go find his long lost child in the Dagger Falls area (after this quest ends).

They returned to the port with the magical marketplace, got their cloaks, and teleported to the Phandelver Mines. The group was escorted to Gundren Rockseeker’s office (with some awkward reminiscing between Gundren & Blueblood II). Rockseeker told them about the drow who had come by during the last few years, possessed him, and used their magic forge to create the primordial weapon replicas.

Me’Urra said it would take him 8-12 days at the forge to finish their cloaks (bringing out the inherent magic in them), with Vandomar assisting him. Blueblood II teleported to Red Larch, met up with a Vanifer contact, and went out to the farm he was directed to. The next day the contact at the farm informed him that he had been granted permission to see the Greater Temple. Blueblood II then got a tour of the 5 levels of the Temple of Elemental Evil of Tyar-Besil. He met with the 4 Prophets and spent a total of 6 days there (he heard about their drow ally who would be joining them at the ceremony and assumed it was the Purple Elder One).

Blueblood II returned to the others; Ryali had finished reading her magic tomes. The group discussed plans for taking out the cult and saving the world. Blueblood II decided to write a book for his daughter  detailing his adventures (it took him 3 days and he made her a 2nd book for her to record her own journeys).

During those 3 days: Queen Morwen Daggerford-Lennor (who was in Neverwinter, reigning in the power of her sister-in-law Jalaine who had taken over there) showed up with Radcliff and some guards hoping to open negotiations to purchase the mines from the dwarves. Radcliff & Ryali spoke; they got some 2-way communication scrolls from Me’urra. Ryali sent the baby red dragon (with its pouch of coinage) with Radcliff, hoping it would be safe back at Cobalt Castle.

A brilliant plan was formed by Blueblood II: fake tattoos on himself, Elaida, and Vandomar (created by Me’urra at the forge to look like Ryali’s tattoo but with the other Elemental weapons so they would all look like Chosen Ones). Ryali added the clever idea that they say she had been off finding other people with the mark and that was how they had all come together for the ceremony. They completed the imitation markings by the end of the day.

Blueblood II teleported to the Temple of Elemental Evil and told them to prepare the ceremony for the next day, at midnight so they would have several hours after that to prepare to deal with the vision that Ryali had: their friends pissed off the 9 Hells and armies of Fiends will be unleashed to destroy the Sword Coast. She hoped to use the Vial of The True Tharizdun to combat them; according to Elaida, Bahamut told her that Ryali could use the Vial for at least a short while and save the Sword Coast, though she would likely then be gone from the world.

Battle Plan: The group planned on going in, an hour before midnight, with Foresight cast on Ryali & Elaida. Me’Urra would wait 10 rounds before teleporting in to help the group.

Their tattoos worked and they got the other 3 Elemental Weapons (from the Prophets) to bond to for an hour while the ceremonious chanting happened, led by Vanifer; she was planning to summon the actual 4 Elemental Princes at the end of the ceremony to make sure Tharizdun was released. The drow clearly didn’t like them and tried to protect the Vial of Tharizdun.

Blueblood II interrupted the ceremony and used his Rod of Rulership combined with the powers of the Ollamh Lute to convince the army of about 400 people to all kill themselves as sacrifices to their god, for what they perceived as their goals. It worked on all of the enemies except the drow possessed by the Elder Purple One. Ryali got the Vial and managed to keep her sanity. They were able to Feeblemind the drow and take him prisoner before the Elder Purple One could possess any of them.

They went to a mountain where they could see the Sapphire Coast from a distance and waited until dawn, when the Fiends came in mass attacking the Sword Coast. They joined together, all touching the Vial while Ryali attempted to control it. She summoned Far Realms creatures and Elementals to fight the Fiends. Vandomar went unconscious and rolled down the mountain some. This caused Blueblood II to tie his hand to the Vial (along with Elaida’s hand) but both he and Elaida soon went insane.

Ryali kept from going insane, destroyed the Elder Purple One, realized the creatures she summoned would continue following her orders for the rest of the day, sent an additional group of Far Realms monstrosities to kill the Sylvanslayer family in Mulmaster, cut her friends free from the Vial, and took Blueblood II’s advice to send another army of creatures into the 9 Hells (she magically saw Meanderson standing over a dead Asmodeus with both Daen and Kara bleeding to death – hoping her actions would save her friends). These actions took up all of the energy that Ryali could harness from the Vial and the white energy around her swirled inside of her, destroying the Vial and causing her to blip out of existence.

In actuality, Ryali went back in time and appeared near a battlefield where some magical Juggernaut machines had been sent to destroy an elf village. Holic was nearby, having spent his time learning about technology in the City of the Ancient Elder Gods/Immortals until Sir Jenkins the Knight (known for slaying Wererats) and his adventuring buddy the Bishop of Blackmoor (famous Vampire Hunter) showed up recruiting him to go fight these Juggernauts.

Mechanos/Holic saw Ryali appear in a flash of white energy a few hills over and went to talk to her. He was confused how she was back, despite his noble sacrifice to let her go back to her home/time. She explained that his sacrifice had paid off and that they saved the world, but that she then had to sacrifice herself as well. Though they were now back together again and had an adventure waiting a few hills over…

Back in the future: Me’urra used his powers to cure the insanity in both Blueblood and Elaida. With Ryali’s sacrifice, the group assumed she was dead. Blueblood II took Me’urra, Vandomar, and Elaida to go save Radcliff. Blueblood II then went by himself, destroyed the magic forge at the Phandelver mines, told Gundren Rockseeker to go ahead and sell the mine to Queen Morwen, and then returned to his family.

Me’Urra returned to the family and discussed with Blueblood II the fact that the actual current 4 Princes of Elemental Evil might be really upset with the 2 of them; Blueblood II realized he should go to eliminate the threat of the 4 Princes of Elemental Evil. Me’Urra, of course, offered to go with him (after resting at least a day).

1343: The Origins of Semuanya & the Lady of Chaos
Sources: Blackmoor DA1-4 Part 2
Setting: Oerth’s Blackmoor Region – Thousands of Years Ago…
Holic, Ryali, Sir Jenkins, and the Bishop of Blackmoor saved a village of Elves from 2 Juggernauts sent by the EGG of Coot. Two Immortals (Strength and Ingenuity) showed up, saying that they could see explosive divine energy in Ryali – that she could explode at any moment. Much conversing took place and Ryali realized from what they were telling her that if she exploded, then it might release Tharizdun back out into the world (and kill her, and others around her); she had become the container.

The Immortals suggested she and Holic take on a God Quest so they could attain divinity so that Ryali would ascend to a form that would allow her to forever contain the energy inside of her. Another Immortal arrived (Thievery) who told them that the EGG of Coot had duplicated the Well of Souls from another world and was going to empower himself with the souls of the people from this region.

Ryali and Holic decided to try to ascend to deity status, but they needed followers, they needed to complete a God Quest, and they needed to get Holic some divine energy (which the EGG of Coot had). Holic flew to the frogfolk that had stayed near the Temple of the Frog and convinced them to worship him as a god of the Life domain. They wanted to use a crab as his symbol since he made his mechanical crab come to life in front of them, but he insisted that would be a temporary symbol until he came up with a better one [which would end up being an egg, based on where he got his divine power – and that lizardfolk are born from eggs].

Meanwhile, Ryali reluctantly convinced the elf village that they had rescued to worship her as “The Tamer of Chaos” with the 8-pointed star symbol inside of a circle. The Bishop of Blackmoor helped her convince the elves (because he wanted her to save the kingdom from the EGG of Coot).

Holic met back up with Ryali, Sir Jenkins, and the Bishop at Castle Blackmoor. They went in and found Meanderson with the King. They wondered why he was there; Meanderson thought he was there because he prayed to Nnyl when his group was being defeated by the Devils (but Ryali realized that it was probably because they were connected via the Timesus energy that she activated). Ryali called him over to talk about the situation with her and Holic.

After they spoke, they rejoined the discussion with the King of Blackmoor and discovered that scouts from the Duchy of Tenh found the location of the Well of Souls and had info about the EGG of Coot using it. They also knew that if the Well of Souls was destroyed, it would cause the entire region to be covered in magical ice.

Ryali, Holic, and Meanderson said they would go kill the EGG of Coot and deal with the Well of Souls (though the plan was to find a way to wait 2 years to destroy it, if possible, so the people would have time to move out of the region). The 3 of them spent 2 hours flying to the location, during which they updated each other and made plans. Meanderson urged them, if they became gods, to find a way to help his god Nnyl (who had been trapped in the Domains of Dread by Ao). He also realized that Ryali was “The Lady of Chaos” and said he had faith in her that this plan would work.

In a tense battle with 2 grells, 23 dwarf-size Cthulu underlings, and the bright blue EGG of Coot, the Sapphire Circle won the day. Holic figured out how to tinker with and use the controls of the Well of Souls. He hooked himself and Ryali into it. They channeled the EGG of Coot’s energy and divine power through it to Holic.

Ryali ascended first and realized how to do what Meanderson was suggesting – use the connection between this Well of Souls and the other one (on Mystara) to pull the same type of trick that Dark Lord Merej Nnyl did at the end of the Y battle; Ryali took the people and buildings from this region and put them on Mystara (except for the Temple of the Frog, which had the Timesus-energy locking it in place).

The Well of Souls exploded, killing Meanderson and the remaining grell (that he had used his bard powers to Dominate). If it would have taken them longer to kill the EGG of Coot, it might have been able to mind-control Ryali and end their plan. Holic also ascended while Ryali was using her powers.

Ryali became a non-evil god of chaos for the world of Mystara, known as the “Lady of Chaos” and eventually interacted with the pantheons of other worlds and gained the respect of other deities (such as Bahamut). Holic became the lizardfolk/swampfolk god of life/survival known as Semuanya with most of his followers on Oerth (though some on Mystara and other worlds).

In time, Holic came to use his life-giving powers to create a race of machine-folk/forged living constructs. He decided to wait until a proper point in the time-stream to reveal his forgedfolk to Oerth and explain to his followers that Semuanya (with the EGG symbol) was truly Mechanos.

It occurred to them that since Meanderson had been sent back through the time-stream to Blackmore, that Daen and Kara probably were also sent back and would have lived out their lives on Mystara once Ryali moved the people of the region over to the other world.

Setting: Kalibruhn-Toril – Year 1489 DR, Month 2, Day 23
Daen, Kara, and Meanderson were presumed dead [though they actually ended up in Blackmoor, in the past] from their war against the 9 Hells when it was revealed that Asmodeus was killed with his assault force (after collapsing the 9th Layer of the Hells). Mephistopheles, Ruler of the 8th Layer, assumed control as the Archduke over the 9 Hells; his powerful agents included Esposach, the Necromancer from Oerth, who had used the Tapestry of Nerull to bring the death god back to power (after the Raven Queen was banished to the Domains of Dread, but before Ao had settled the divine powers of the gods).

During the assault on the Sword Coast, Azel & Ylara were defending Baldur’s Gate. They killed Esposach, who was in his horned devil form leading the assault on Baldur’s Gate; when he died, a rip in reality opened up in front of the heroes and they (not knowing that Ryali was the source of the rip) charged into the opening to fight off anything coming through.

When the rip closed Azel and Ylara were stuck in the Far Realms, where they had to learn how to survive in a strange alien land. They would have died or quickly been driven insane, except that – miraculously – they stumbled upon Maure Castle. The manor provided them with shelter and magically replenishing food and heat. Ironically (since they both didn’t like the place when they first encountered it as Me’Urra’s home), Maure Castle became their base.

To make sure the Princes of Elemental Evil couldn’t come after them and their family members, Blueblood II and Me’urra sacrificed themselves by going into the Elemental Node with the 4 Elemental Princes; Blueblood distracted them while Me’Urra set off a magical device that collapsed the node, killing everyone inside.

Prince Alagarthas, Aldea, and Furina found that they loved being in the Feywild so they acquired a beautiful, peaceful home where Aldea could tend to a magical grove; they decided to live there for hundreds of years – until the eventual death of Alagarthas’ father, which would require them to return to the Sword Coast.

Vandomar and his wife Elaida (the surviving members of the active Sapphire Circle adventuring group) told everyone that Ryali was dead, that she had sacrificed herself to save the world from Tharizdun. Elaida went and got the baby red dragon from Cobalt Castle so she could raise it to follow the ways of Bahamut. The couple was now rich, with 1 million gold pieces in their account, and decided to retire to have their family; they spent their money helping Akra rebuild Gardmore Abbey and protect the people there. They reclaimed their tower. Over the next few years, they ended up having 1 boy and 1 girl. They named the quarter-elf siblings after their adventuring companions: the boy was Holic and the girl was Ryali.

Akra re-established Gardmore Abbey and raised her children there, alongside her dwarf partners who were strong believers in Moradin. Akra’s children decided to be adventurers and head out into the world. They ended up spreading the word of Bahamut and helping defend people from monster raids.

Radcliff contacted Glora about possibly buying her portion of the Sapphire Coast, but she wasn’t interested in selling it. Glora, her father, her twin brother, and her 3 children went into a special Feywild-Patch that had a temporal distortion so that 1 month passing in the outside world would be the same as 1 year passing inside the Patch. For the first 9 years they spent inside (which was only 9 months to the outside world, making it the year 1490 DR) Jekk Ironfist, Jamna Gleamsilver, and little Daria “Blueblood III” Thoron lived with them and had a chance to bond with Glora’s family. At that point, Jekk and Jamna took the blue tiefling girl out to live on the Sword Coast. They purchased some nice coastal land in the area near rebuilt Leilon.

Glora’s family stayed in the Feywild-Patch for another 88 years (88 months for the outside world, a.k.a. another 7.3 years, ending in the 3rd month of 1497 DR) so her children would be 100 years old and thus considered adults. At that point, she told her father it was ok for him to go be with Ehlonna and Mya (and thus Randelial left them). Glora and Manthor went out to discover what had happened with politics in the Sword Coast (while her children talked of going out to adventure, with Oran the Green Lord having revealed the location of their 2nd cousin Daria to them so they could meet up with her).

Sword Coast politics in the year 1497 DR proved very interesting to Glora and Manthor; they were told the following: back in 1489, with Daen & Kara presumed dead, Radcliff and Queen Morwen Daggerford-Lennor ended up falling in love and getting married the next year (1490). People gossiped that they were both on the rebound and it was a good match because they were both powerful and wealthy leaders in the Sword Coast region. That caused Radcliff to become King Radcliff Stabler with his wife known as Queen Morwen Daggerford-Lennor-Stabler. They had 1 boy, who was born in 1491, delcared the heir to the throne, and named Maldwyn after Morwen’s deceased brother. They had been charged with taking care of Azel & Ylara’s children, but they sent those kids (along with Daen’s children) to their distant relatives at Reyal Keep. In exchange for raising the children, the main branch of the Reyal family was given the wealth they needed to rebuild their defenses.

Jalaine Lenor ran Neverwinter for a few years and Haelyn Lenor ran Baldur’s Gate. A treaty was signed, uniting the lands from Neverwinter down to Baldur’s Gate (though the Sapphire Coast was technically its own province, this new kingdom ran along its outside border). The United Kingdom of the Sword Coast (or UK for short) quickly distanced itself from being called Fenwick Kingdom or anything like that.

Daggerford served as the official capitol and unified systems of laws, trade, and guards were used throughout the territory. King Radcliff expanded the Blue Cloaks as his official royal guards. Greystem I refused to leave his post as administrator of the Sapphire Coast, though he died in 1495 (with his son taking over his role) – the same year that Jalaine and Haelyn passed away from a mysterious sickness. Daen’s youngest sister, Willow the Wizard, cried out conspiracy theories that Queen Morwen was having people murdered. Willow was arrested and then disappeared.

Radcliff made public speeches and assured people that all was well. When Glora returned to the coast and checked her bank account, she found that her 1,000 gp per month profit as a co-owner was there for all 100 months that she had been gone raising her kids, thus giving her 100,000 gp. Greystem II explained that the operating budget had been spent on rebuilding Leilon and expanding their extensive defenses (with more roads, keeps, walls, and guards).

Glora found out that a nice manor had been built for her family in the Sapphire Coast’s port city’s noble district so she could live both there and in her wooded lands near New Illefarn. Manthor was looking forward to living in the busy port city and getting to know the interesting people at the magical marketplace.
