Season 7 Play: Attained Level 7 (Champion Fighter 6;
Celestial Warlock 1)
Have you ever heard the tragic tale of Jervarius Daggerford, of THE Daggerford family? It's not a story the Daggerfords are likely to tell. Because they are ashamed of him and the love he feels for the member of a rival noble family!
I created this character with an arrogant noble background. I made him a flashy
dual-wielding fighter and member of the Zhentarim. His backstory also included a
love affair with a noble woman in Waterdeep in which neither his parents nor
hers approved of their relationship. Thus he exiled from his family and he was out adventuring, trying to
prove himself worthy of her love.
But what happened once he stepped out into the world? Do you
remember me mentioning (in the story of another character) how brutal the
module DDEX1-4 Dues for the Dead could be? Well, it was so brutal that
Jervarius experienced death. That’s right. And he was the first member of the
party to go down. It looked like one or two of the characters could flee and
survive, but nope – it became a sad, sad TPK (total party kill). The DM wasn’t
going out of his way to kill us. It just happened after our resources were
dwindled down and we were outnumbered for the final fight. Luckily, the AL rules
gave a free resurrection to Tier 1 characters via Faction membership. But man,
that was a crushing defeat during his first adventure.
After bring brought back to life, Jervarius had a great time
fighting elemental cultists in DDEX2-12 Dark Rites at Fort Dalton and bandits
in DDAL05-5 A Dish Best Served Cold. He also found himself part of a team
fighting dragons in DDAL00-02c Lost Tales of Myth Drannor- Maimed Virulence; I
played up his arrogance and it worked, with him insulting the dragons talking
about how he was going to romance their mother. He survived, thanks to some
great team strategy in combat.
Unfortunately, I then made a mistake in playing this
character. I signed up for and started playing in a session of DDHC-TOA-7 Ruins
of Mezro before I realized it meant the death curse was active – and Jervarius
had died before. Yikes! He survived the adventure, but the days were counting
down with 1 HP disappearing each day. I had to stop playing him for the rest of
Season 7, waiting out the end of the Death Curse.
