Note: He converted to Season 8 as 11 when it rounded up so I
gave him another level of War Cleric
I had an idea, when reading the multiclass section of the
Player’s Handbook. The Eldritch Knight counted as a one-third caster, so taking
six levels of fighter would equate to two full caster levels for the multiclass
chart; thus I implemented my plan and multi-classed to war cleric so that once
a day I could do an awesome five attacks a round via an action with two
attacks, an action surge for two more attacks, and a bonus action from the war
priest ability – all without feeling too bad about losing some spell levels. It
was awesome when I was able to finally have it come together! Most modules have
an obvious boss fight so just needed to make sure to save my resources for
that.
Hero Forge Design:
Backstory
Jarenian was raised by centaurs after his family was killed
by evil dragon cultists. The centaurs brought him into the Feywild, where they
taught him how to fight and use magic; when he was old enough, he helped the
centaurs as a soldier in their war against the evil wemics and earned the rank
of captain for one of the support squadrons.
Adventures
DDEX1-9 Outlaws of the Iron Route
In this adventure, the team was able to do a lot of
stealthing and planning to deal with different factions. Jarenian got the magic
item and was easily able to trade it.
Lost Mine of Phandelver Campaign
Jarenian really impressed the other adventurers in Wave Echo
Cave after they had let him attune to the boots of striding and springing. He
was jumping all over the place killing enemies and healing people. It was tons
of fun. After this storyline was over, I used the AL Downtime option to get the
character up to Tier 2.
DDHC-TYP Tales from the Yawning Portal: White Plume Mountain
I have to admit I must have been having a bad day or
something when the adventure started, but things really picked up fast. It was
during the vampire battle that my multiclass 5-attacks in one round combo
finally came online in full force. Smacking that undead monster with the
Lightbringer mace from LMOP was great. Jarenian just unleashed on it.
Unfortunately, we only got through two-thirds of the dungeon and I was busy
when the rest of the group met to finish the last third. Even still though,
that module was full of loot and rewards.
DDAL05-17: Hartkiller's Horn
This adventure was hilarious in the sense that I was
laughing at myself while fearing a potential TPK (total party kill). It all
happened when I failed some checks and ended up sliding down some ice into a
ravine while the party was spread out being annihilated in an ice cavern.
Eventually those boots of striding and springing got me out of there and we survived,
but just barely.
On Discord chat when I mentioned to the other players that I
traded away the boots of striding and springing (because it required attunement
and I didn’t want too many attunement items), they balked and responded in shock.
To them the boots had become an integral part of the character. They loved that
the dwarf with the short legs could move so fast and travel so far on the
battlefield. Looking back, I do somewhat regret the decision, but I am looking
at the Season 8 item options and hoping to get a broom of flying (which does
not require attunement) so hopefully all will end well for Jarenian…
